"You must be a member of the local Administrators group to modify configuration..." error

Symptoms

When attempting to perform certain sensitive tasks, such as applying configuration settings, you receive the following message:

You must be a member of the local Administrators group to modify configuration settings and perform other privileged operations.

Cause

For security reasons, NetDetour is configured by default to restrict certain sensitive tasks to members of the local "Administrators" group. These tasks include modifying the NetDetour configuration, enabling or disabling the program, and accessing proxy server authentication credentials.

Solution

To permanently remove this security restriction, follow these steps (make sure that you are a member of the "Administrators" group to make these changes):

1. In the main menu, select Tools > Options.
2. Uncheck the box labeled "Allow only members of the local Administrators group to modify the configuration".
3. Click OK to save your changes.
